2024 Valposchiavo - a big walk

Ten days walking around the border of Valposchiavo in Switzerland with my cousin J. Joined on the way by friends keen to tackle some of the sections. The aim was to spend time up high as we criss-crossed the Swiss-Italian border over 11 passes and one peak, climbing and descending almost the height of Mt Everest. Fabulous vistas, exquisite flowers in unexpected places, animals, not just goats, sheep and cows, we came across marmots, ibex, black asp, eagle, buzzard, maybe European vulture. We met many people living and working in the alps, stayed in the best guest houses and ate incredible food using local produce. An amazing way to celebrate this astonishing valley and the valleys that surround it: Valmalenco, Upper Engadin, Val Livigno, Val Malghera, Schiazzera and the Valtellina. Special thanks to Spider as Number 1 support crew and lunch maker, and to my friends who made sure I was prepared, fed, tented and joined us on the way: Cica and Sandra, Verena and Achille, Hansjorg and crew, Michela; and of course J who was the perfect hiking partner and mad enough to trust me!
