Contemporary African design is inspiring the global design landscape. So why isn't it accessible worldwide? We created 54kibo to bring you exclusively luxury African decor for the home, office and other lifestyle spaces.

54kibo's interior decor products originate from ~50 inspiring and highly creative product design experts who have trained at leading design schools across Africa and the world. They are shepherding the next wave of Africa’s creative economy and preserving Africa's artisanal heritage.

NANA QUAGRAINE
FOUNDER
Born in Ghana, raised in South Africa, and now living in Brooklyn, New York, our founder, Nana always loved the unique contemporary African design items she found on trips home. But she realized these designs were largely hard to access globally. Nana launched 54kibo in 2018 along with a team committed to sharing the endless creativity in Africa and its Diaspora. It’s our pleasure to share it with you.

OUR NAME
Our name honors Africa's 54 countries, and the creativity of the ~1.2 billion people on the continent and the diaspora. Kibo is the highest summit in Africa, a snow-capped volcanic cone that sits atop Mt. Kilimanjaro. Similarly at 54kibo we bring you the most uniquely beautiful designs.

PHILOSOPHY
Nkyimu, pronounced n-chi-moo, an Adinkra symbol representing skillfulness and precision, is a pattern created by the Akan people from Ghana and Ivory Coast. This grid-like pattern is placed on fabrics before other Adinkra symbols are stamped, ensuring precise placement of each symbol. Likewise, 54kibo was created to be a foundation that showcases Africa's vast interior decor designs and creativity.

Hand-picked by our founder, we have a beautiful combination of passion and credentials to bring African Design to the forefront worldwide. As we peruse collections, we search for the most striking and uncommon items - items that help your home and interior space stand out.

CONNECTION TO AFRICA
While we are based in Brooklyn, NY, much of our team and advisors is from, has spent time living in, or has traveled throughout Africa. There’s so much more we can’t wait to see. Our name’s inspiration, Kibo, is denoted by the triangle on Mt. Kilimanjaro.
