Hi, Matt with etrailer. Today, we're gonna be talking about the Titan Chain tire chains with the roller links on our 2020 Ford F-150. Now, we're gonna have this on our rear axle, it's what the manual recommends, and our tire size is gonna be 275/65-R18. Now, this will fit a variety of other sizes. That's just the size we have today. If you're not sure if this is gonna fit your vehicle, you can actually plug in your vehicle's information into our fit guide to find the right one for you.
Now, these are gonna be a great set of chains for anyone who just needs something to have in case of emergencies. If you're in any area that gets more a light snow, maybe even moderate in some cases or you just need 'em to be legal in your state because they're required in some states to have in your vehicle by law. But whatever situation you're in, these are great for those more light conditions. And the reason why is because the design of them. So up top, we're gonna have this roller link design, and it's not gonna be as aggressive as those more square link styles.
But what is nice about this is it's gonna provide you more of a smoother ride since this is gonna give you the ability just to roll over those snowy areas. And also they're gonna be class S, so they're not gonna be super big and bulky. So that'll also kinda help out with that and leave more space to kinda sit by your suspension, so it doesn't make contact with anything. We're also gonna have a ladder-style pattern. And with a ladder style, that's gonna give you more traction for those initial stops and starts.
And in the center, the way this is gonna hook up together is gonna be through this lever here. So that lever is gonna help you get some extra slack from these chains and make this process for tightening your chains a little bit easier. They're also gonna be made from a low carbon steel and that low carbon steel is just gonna help 'em last a little bit. It won't be as durable as some of the other types of chains out there, but they are gonna be a softer metal, which also in turn leads to that smoother ride. Now, something I do recommend grabbing is gonna be a rubber tensioner.
The reason why I recommend a rubber tensioner is 'cause when you're driving on the road with these, what's typically gonna happen is after a few miles or so, these are gonna start to loosen up because your chain's gonna shift. And if they loosen up too much, they can make contact with something on your vehicle like your suspension, and that's not gonna be a fun day. Now, your chains are gonna come in a set of two, and they're gonna come in this more light-duty bag. That's okay 'cause they're gonna be light-duty chains, so they shouldn't really tear it up too much. I will say these chains are a little bit springy and it can be kinda difficult to get into this hole here. So what I'd actually recommend doing is maybe ditching the bag and investing in a small tote to keep your chains in. The reason being is this can be a little bit easier to take 'em in and out if you ever do need them. Now, in my opinion, I think these are great chains for if you just wanna stay legal in your state or you're just looking for something in those light-duty areas. But if you're actually thinking about putting these on, then I actually might recommend another one. And that's gonna be another one by Titan Chain, and this is gonna be one with a rubber tensioner. The reason why I recommend that one is you don't have to worry about investing in a rubber tensioner separately and is actually easier to install. With this type of chain, you're gonna have to get on the ground, underneath your vehicle when it's snowing and icy outside, which isn't gonna be fun. Now, on the F-150, yes, you do have a little bit of space to work with, and I do think this is manageable. But not getting on the ground is better than getting on the ground at the end of the day. So I'd recommend checking out those chains. They will install a little bit differently. Instead of getting on the ground like you do with these, you just make all the connections from the front like that. It makes the process really simple to do. But if you like these because maybe you like this design a little bit more or you really just don't plan on using 'em, you just wanna stay legal in your state, I think that's fine too. But
