Team Apex Gaming made their first major roster move and the number attached to it is turning heads. Jonathan signed the entire True Rippers lineup - Jelly, Hydro, Kio, Harsh - for a reported 10 lakh buyout. Full breakdown of why that figure is unusual and what it means.
Context first. True Rippers wasn't a regular team. They represented India at PMGC, played against Korea and Japan at BMIC, podium finish at CEGC. International experience, pressure handling, proven track record. That's not a roster most orgs let go of casually.
Rumours had the lineup heading to Team Apex Gaming for weeks. The delay was buyout negotiations. True Rippers was reportedly pushing for a high number, which made sense given what they had. Then the final figure dropped - 10 lakh for the entire lineup.
For comparison, single-player buyouts in BGMI have gone higher than that. Hector reportedly cost 15 lakh. HunterZ was around 20 lakh plus. So an entire international roster closing for 10 lakh goes against what you'd expect.
Why True Rippers agreed to that number this quickly is still unclear. Transfer window was closing but the leverage was on their side. Exact reason hasn't come out. What's obvious is Jonathan played this smart in his very first move as an owner.
On the roster itself. Jelly is calm under pressure. Hydro is aggressive, initiates fights. Kio adapts to situations. Harsh provides stability. They've played together at high levels so chemistry is already built. Team Apex Gaming isn't starting from zero on synergy - they're starting with a roster that already understands each other.
Add Jonathan's game IQ and playing experience into a team that already works, and you get something that can be built quickly instead of over a year.
For True Rippers, sources point to K9 Esports' lineup - Omega, Slug, NinjaBoi, Knight - coming in to replace. Talented players but new chemistry needs time. Short term they'll likely go through the usual adjustment phase. Long term, the potential is there.
BMPS 2026 is where all of this gets tested. Not a low-stakes tournament either - EWC 2026 qualification runs through BMPS. So Team Apex Gaming's debut coincides with one of the biggest tournaments of the year.
Competition at BMPS is also stacked. Soul just won BGIS, Orangutan is rebuilding, GodLike has its own new lineup. TAG walks in with a proven unit, which is a good position to start from, but LAN pressure tests every roster differently.
If this hits, Jonathan built a BMPS contender at a bargain price. If it doesn't, the org still saved money for future moves. Either way, the first owner decision is out of the way and the result will show at BMPS.
