In general, most world-class musicians like Virsaladze are so brilliant in their art and so unique in their approach that they genuinely don’t like much of what other artists do. 🤷🏼However, the vast majority wouldn’t dare to say it out loud🙊, knowing how fierce the fans of other musicians can be😡.
This interview caused a scandal, as many of Buniatishvili’s fans felt insulted. But the truth is, Eliso simply voiced what many professional pianists think—but don’t dare to say. I know Eliso as someone with impeccable taste, unprecedented perfectionism, and a rather conservative approach, so her statements don’t surprise me. But I understand why they come as a shock to a wider audience that assumes the most famous players must be the best.
I personally appreciate directness and honesty, even when it’s not what I want to hear. Virsaladze’s statements may be controversial, but I find it admirable when people have the guts to say what they think.
