This was a delightful 50's style 'Caribbean, underwater adventure' type book with octopus - at least the first part. Then it turns into a Caribbean, adventure, apocalyptic, intelligent/alien octopus, ocean invasion type book. I was totally there for both parts of the book, I absolutely loved it.
One downside that I did not mention is that the ending is abrupt and not entirely satisfying on a few levels. It did not bother me that much, but worth mentioning.
