Attending events became a whole lot more complicated, especially with the number of postponed and cancelled tickets we're all facing these days! It's important you know what each of these different types of notices mean!
Postponed/suspended events are simply events which are no longer taking place on the original date and time as planned. These events are usually the result of something to do with scheduling, artist sickness, or in today's day and age, as a result of the current global pandemic taking place. As a result, the tickets purchased will still be valid for the future event once it has been rescheduled and a new date is set. But what if you want to get your money back?
Before the global changes going on, many box offices would offer you the ability to request a refund on the purchase as the ticketed event is no longer taking place at the same date and time as previously announced. This would generally mean you could get your money back, or if you were still interested in attending the event, you could hold onto your tickets.
However, Ticketmaster and others are no longer offering you the ability to request a refund for postponed events as they do not have the ability to refund all the postponed events that are taking place. They are releasing additional information daily, but it appears that starting on May 1st 2020 for a period of 30 days, the ability to request a refund on postponed events will be possible.
For postponed events that were purchased on a secondary ticket market though, things are a bit different. The secondary ticket market states that all sales are final, and as a result of a postponed event, because the event is still taking place at some point in the future, tickets will remain valid and all sales will be final. They do offer you the ability to relist your tickets and sell them, but this obviously isn't something ideal. The other issue is that many postponed events do not have a rescheduled date, so its even more tough to sell your tickets these days.
For events that are changing as a result of a venue change, generally speaking these tickets are able to be refunded on both the primary and secondary market as they are no longer taking place at the same venue which you purchased the tickets for, and the seating location will also change.
Cancelled events are a bit more straightforward - all cancelled events purchased from the box office directly are able to be refunded, no questions asked. Some venues though are being a bit creative with this - some are offering you the ability to request the funds as a credit on your account, or as cash refund.
Cancelled events bought on the secondary market are playing out a bit differently. Initially, many markets were offering the ability to get cancelled tickets refunded directly, and also providing an option to request a credit back on your account instead with a bonus additional credit added to your account. Now though, it appears that many are no longer offering a cash refund option at all, and are simply offering a credit on your account in the amount of approx 120% of the purchase price. Again though, things are constantly changing so stay tuned for more updates as I'll be posting more videos in the future!
