In this finale to the classic Dan Dare trilogy, you play as the legendary space hero Dan Dare — kidnapped by the evil Treens under the command of the dreaded Mekon and thrown into their orbiting experimental station. Your mission: escape. To do this you explore five sprawling levels of maze-like corridors, collect fuel canisters scattered throughout the station, blast hostile alien creatures with your plasma rifle and jet pack, and navigate teleporters that connect each level together.

The gameplay blends fast-paced platforming with side-view shooting, multi-directional scrolling, and strategic item collection. The Commodore 64 version is especially notable for its engaging joystick-based controls and atmospheric soundtrack by Maniacs of Noise, giving it a distinct feel compared to its 16-bit counterparts.

While reviews at the time were mixed — praising the colourful graphics and energetic music but critiquing repetitive level design — Dan Dare III remains a memorable piece of retro gaming history.
