Want to save mobile data and avoid unexpected usage? This video shares 6 simple tips to help you manage and reduce data consumption on your Android smartphone.
✅ What you’ll learn:
1. Check which apps use the most data
Go to Mobile Settings → Search “Data Usage” → Tap Mobile Data Usage to view top data-consuming apps and manage them.
Pro Tip: Want to check your data usage for a specific date range?
Go to Mobile Settings → Data Usage → Billing Cycle, then change the start date to match your preferred cycle. This helps you track data usage accurately within that period.
2. Control video streaming quality
High-resolution videos consume more data. Reduce usage by lowering video quality in apps like YouTube. For example, while playing YouTube video, tap on settings and select a lower video quality. These steps may vary depending on the app used, but most popular video streaming apps will allow you to control data usage by adjusting the video quality.
3. Manage WhatsApp auto - download settings
Go to WhatsApp → Settings → Storage & Data → Under “When using mobile data,” uncheck media types you don’t want to auto-download. The unchecked content type can be downloaded manually as per your choice.
4. Manage Auto-Update settings in Play Store
If you have enabled ‘Auto-Update’ Apps on Play store, then all apps on your phone will get auto updated each time a new update is available. To reduce data consumption, you may disable the auto update and update apps as per your choice.
Go to Play Store → Menu → Settings → Network Preferences → Auto-update apps → Select “Update over Wi-Fi only.”
5. Manage auto backup & sync on cloud apps
Apps like Google Photos and Drive sync data in the background. Turn off auto backup and only upload when needed.
Example: go to google photos, tap on Menu and select settings option and disable “Backup videos over data”.
6. Watch out for hotspot-connected devices
When you share your mobile hotspot, connected devices may download large updates automatically (sometimes over 1GB). Disable auto-updates on those devices
