Tampa Bay, FL Christmas Radio Airchecks & IDs (December 2021)

Описание: Happy New Year, everyone! Christmas may be over as I'm posting this. Heck it might already be 2022 for most of you, but I've managed to record some Christmas airchecks from Tampa Bay, Florida. What made this remarkable for me is that I recorded these airchecks all in one day. The reason why I held back for a bit was well...because I didn't wanna get "whammed" for Whamageddon. To be honest, I should probably embrace Whamhalla next year so I can take my time recording these airchecks.

This holiday season, there were 4 stations in the Tampa Bay area that went to a Christmas format, with all but The JOY FM modifying their logos to feature a festive theme. The JOY FM & WDUV are the established all-Christmas stations in Tampa Bay, while WSDV & WMTX have started fairly recently. For WMTX, this was their 3rd year going all-Christmas, having started in 2019. Every station started earlier than in previous years, except for you guessed it, The JOY FM, who, if I recall correctly, started right after Thanksgiving, as usual. The two iHeart stations (WSDV & WMTX) started on November 5th & WDUV flipped just two days later. Of note, WSDV stood out from the rest as they only played Christmas music at night, from 7pm to midnight.

WBVM & WYUU only played Christmas music for a short period of time, with WYUU (as well as 106.5 WRUB, which I sadly didn't have time to record) playing Spanish Christmas music. WWRM sporadically played Christmas music throughout the holiday season, one of the last remnants from when it used to be the primary Christmas station in Tampa Bay many years ago until 2013, when they handed it over to their sister station WDUV.

The stations were recorded using a C. Crane CC Skywave (WDUV, WYUU, & WMTX) & an Eton Elite Mini (WSDV, WBVM, & WWRM). Yes, I finally have actual radios for once. However, WJIS was recorded from it's web stream. Pardon the reception for WSDV, as it is a Sarasota station on top of it being on the AM dial, which is pretty unique as it's one of the few CHR stations left in the world on the AM band, making it a relic of the past despite it only having launched a few years ago.
