1. The Pre-Check (Minute 1)

​2. The Controls (Minute 2)
​Most standard forklifts use a three-lever system to the right of the steering wheel:
​Lift Lever (Inner): Pull back to raise the forks; push forward to lower them.
​Tilt Lever (Middle): Pull back to tilt the forks up (secures the load); push forward to tilt down.
​Side Shift (Outer): Moves the carriage left or right for precise alignment.
​The Pedals: Usually, it’s just like a car (Gas and Brake), but some have an Inching Pedal (far left) which allows you to cut power to the drive while keeping the engine RPMs high for fast lifting.
​3. The "Stability Triangle" (Minute 3)
​This is the most important safety concept. A forklift is supported at three points: the two front wheels and the center of the rear axle.
​Center of Gravity: As long as your center of gravity stays inside that triangle, you’re safe.
​The Danger: If you take a corner too fast or lift a heavy load too high, the center of gravity shifts outside the triangle, and the forklift will tip over.
​4. Driving & Steering (Minute 4)
​Rear-Wheel Steering: Unlike a car, forklifts steer from the back. This means the rear swings out wide.
​Visibility: If your load blocks your view, you must drive in reverse. * The Mast: Always drive with the forks roughly 2–4 inches off the ground. Never drive with the load raised high.
​5. Picking Up & Setting Down (Minute 5)
​Approach: Square up to the pallet.
​Level: Set the forks to level (perpendicular to the mast).
​Insert: Drive forward until the load is against the backrest.
​Lift & Tilt: Lift about 2 inches, then tilt back to stabilize.
