Kohlrausch’s Law states that at infinite dilution, each ion contributes independently to the total molar conductivity of an electrolyte, regardless of the nature of the other ion present. At infinite dilution, interionic attractions become negligible and ions move freely, so the molar conductivity of an electrolyte is equal to the sum of the individual ionic conductivities of its cation and anion. Mathematically, it is expressed as:
Λm° = ν⁺λ°⁺ + ν⁻λ°⁻
where Λm° is molar conductivity at infinite dilution, λ°⁺ and λ°⁻ are ionic conductivities of cation and anion respectively, and ν⁺ and ν⁻ are the number of ions produced on dissociation.
