A matter of days after she received a presidential pardon, former South Korean President Park Geun-hye became a free woman at midnight, Korea time.
The 69 year-old served four years and nine months behind bars following her impeachment and removal from office over a massive corruption scandal.
The pardon was announced last week by the Moon administration as part of its special amnesty for the New Year... in consideration of Park's deteriorating health and the government's efforts to promote national unity.
However, since Park is currently receiving treatment at a hospital in Seoul, she received her pardon certificate at hospital... and is expected to remain there until early February.
Park is eligible for government security protection... but other former presidential privileges have been nullified due to her conviction.
