Putin dials Iranian President, Condoles Khamenei Death; calls for ‘Immediate Ceasefire’

Описание: Russian President Vladimir Putin on March 6 had a telephonic conversation with his Iranian counterpart, Masoud Pezeshkian. During his conversation President Putin conveyed his condolences on the killing of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. As per the Russian Ministry of Foreign affairs, Putin also reaffirmed Russia's stance of immediate cessation of hostilities. Meanwhile, Iranian President provided a detailed update on the developments during the latest active phase of the conflict. As per the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Pezeshkian expressed gratitude for Russia's solidarity with Iranian people. The developments come after a joint US-Israel military strike on February 28 killed Iran’s Supreme Leader, Khamenei. In retaliation, Iran launched waves of attacks across multiple Arab countries, targeting American military bases and Israeli assets. Meanwhile, a Washington Post report claimed that Russia was providing Iran with intelligence to target US forces. Russia’s indirect involvement shows another major US adversary participating in conflict alongside Iran, the report said
