A new category at the Scottish Schools Pipe Band Championships 2014. Freestyle is inspired by the likes of the Red Hot Chilli Pipers bringing a new twist to piping and drumming. Freestyle brings together the whole music department, showing how pipes, drums, guitars, violins, saxophones, harps, keyboards and even bongos can perform together with amazing and inspiring results.
The Freestyle category pulled the biggest and most enthusiastic crowd of the day at the SSPBC and we look forward to seeing more schools next year.
A pipe band in a school can bring huge benefits to those pupils that take part and the whole population of the school. We are campaigning to have Highland Pipes and Drums taught in Scotland's schools on a par with other musical instruments. Every school NEEDS a pipe band.
