Practise these crucial /i:/ and /ɪ/ vowels so you can speak clearly and confidently in English.
English teachers and linguistics call these the FLEECE and KIT vowels but you can refer to them however you feel most comfortable. It’s a really important pair to get right because so many words are different only because of these vowels.
I have given you five short sentences to practise. Listen to the way I make the vowels different and also how I add stress and intonation to the whole sentence.
These are the sentences (and yes, one day I’ll have the equipment to actually have these in the video itself!):
1. He keeps six kittens in the shed.
2. Tennis is not a team sport.
3. It's easy to skip sleep but it's a bad idea if you care about not getting ill.
4. The sailor somehow wrestled the sheep onto the ship but we have no idea why.
5. Kit and Pippa had dreamed about seeing this sight for so long. They could hardly believe the day had arrived!
