Here we are back at the Ulster Transport Museum just outside Belfast for part 2 of this 4 part series and please take a look at the first part where we focused on the railway exhibits if you missed that. Obviously if you’re watching this well after it’s released you may be able to view parts 3 and 4 too, which are full of amazing stuff, if old transport is your thing. Follow the link here to part 1:
• Amazing old trains anyone? Who doesn't lov...
As you can see today’s film looks at the beautiful old buses, trams and trolly buses that are housed here. As you can see the vehicles are exhibited in mocked up streets that give some historical context to the whole thing.
A lot of work goes into these videos. You can now buy me a pint as a means of appreciation for my work on Naked Ireland, no obligation, obviously - only if you can afford it... I appreciate it. Cheers.

These trams and trolly busses are not something I remember even from my childhood, but if you know anything about these specific vehicles then please feel free to tell us about them in the comments – our viewers would welcome the extra information. Regardless of what we know about these early means of transport, they are really beautiful to look at. It makes me wonder why Belfast never kept its tram system, as some cities did, or even why it didn’t reintroduce them. After all electric vehicles are better for the environment anyway.
On a closer inspection of these machines you’ll notice a craftsmanship that you don’t see on modern transportation. And these exhibits are not just from Belfast as you can see.
As we get up close to the bodies of these trams we can really appreciate them. These would have been all hand painted I expect. Even the old signage telling the public where the trams were going are hand painted – each one totally individual.
As you can see it’s not only the vehicles that you can see here, but ticket offices and shops that were once a part of the network are exhibited here too
One of the buses you'll see here was hijacked in the troubles in 1974 and burned and had to be completely restored. This wasn’t at all unusual. Many busses met the same fate during the constant rioting that happened in the 70s and 80s. This caused the bus services to be stopped, which is how the black taxi service came into being, but that’s perhaps for another video.
Finally we look at a really interesting little model of the last bus home in the evening. You can see the distain on the old woman’s face in the front presumably at the behaviour of the Teddy boys in the seats adjacent. And the other old lady is afraid to look round to see who’s hand is on her shoulder.
Hope you’ve enjoyed this ride yourselves. Please give the video a like if that’s the case and I’d absolutely love it if you subscribed.
