We spent one day exploring the enchanting streets of Fort Kochi with our awesome auto rickshaw driver, Shaheer (his info is linked below).

Historic Dutch Laundry
A 300-year-old open-air laundry still operated by descendants of the Tamil dhobi community. A fascinating glimpse into daily life and colonial history.

Old Spice Market
A sensory overload of color and scent. Wander narrow lanes filled with cardamom, pepper, turmeric, and more.

St. Francis CSI Church in Kochi
The oldest European church in India, originally built in 1503. Vasco da Gama was buried here before his remains were moved to Lisbon.

Santa Cruz Cathedral Basilica in Kochi
A grand and beautifully restored cathedral with vibrant murals and stained glass. A striking mix of European and Indian influences.

St. George Orthodox Koonan Kurish Old Syrian Church
One of the most significant sites for the Syrian Christian community.

Chinese Fishing Nets Kochi
Iconic, centuries-old fishing structures that still operate today. Watching them in motion at sunrise or sunset!

Jew Town & Paradesi Synagogue in Kochi
Wander through antique-lined streets before stepping into the oldest functioning synagogue in the Commonwealth, built in 1568

Mattancherry Palace (Dutch Palace)
A gift from the Portuguese to the Kochi royal family in the 16th century. The murals inside are stunning examples of traditional Keralan art.

Dharmanath Jain Temple
A peaceful marble temple tucked away in Mattancherry, known for its intricate carvings and quiet spiritual energy.

Art & Music Cafes
Fort Kochi has a thriving arts scene! We loved the cafes that double as galleries and performance spaces, perfect for relaxing and soaking up local talent.

Food in Fort Kochi
Kerala cuisine is a flavorful blend of spices, coconut, curry leaves, and fresh seafood. In Fort Kochi, we tried everything from flaky parottas and appam with stew to fish, beef, and chicken curries, and creamy coconut-based veg dishes.

Restaurants in Fort Kochi
Some of our favorite restaurants were Kerala Cafe, Hotel City Light, David Hall Art Cafe, Adam's Biryani, Anantha Bhavan (pure veg)
