Police Crackdown Near Adiala Jail: Imran Khan’s Sister Detained After Demanding Meeting With Imran

What began as a peaceful sit-in escalated after authorities repeatedly denied Aleema’s requests to meet her brother, former Prime Minister Imran Khan, who she says has been barred from family meetings for two weeks. Police deployed female personnel to remove Aleema and used water cannons to disperse demonstrators who refused to leave without assurances.

Eyewitnesses reported eight to ten PTI workers being detained in a prisoner van, while Imran Khan’s sister Noreen Niazi reportedly fell ill during the standoff. Aleema Khan accused the administration of deliberately blocking meetings to prevent her from carrying Imran’s messages to the public. She also criticised recent legal amendments, warning that judicial independence is being eroded and courts risk being reduced to symbolic institutions.

Despite a three-member bench granting permission for meetings, Aleema alleges the jail administration continues to ignore court orders. After negotiations failed, she staged another sit-in at Factory Khana and declared she would remain there until access to Imran Khan was restored. She reaffirmed confidence in the judiciary and vowed to approach the Supreme Court, as PTI intensified its demands for Imran Khan’s release and fair legal treatment.
