Inspired by direct cinema pioneer Pierre Perreault, MALENTENDU (i.e. misunderstanding) follows the daily obstacles that endangered Beluga whales must go through in order to survive.
The Saguenay St. Lawrence River in Quebec, Canada is a major commercial seaway with thousands of large ship transits each year.
Noise pollution is a major threat to the recovery of these whales who rely almost exclusively on sound to navigate, feed and stay together.
