Engine Management Concept for paddle steamer after 150 years of operation
In connection with the 150 years anniversary of Hjejlen in 2011, the service organisation of MAN Diesel & Turbo, MAN PrimeServ signed an EMC (maintenance) contract. This autumn MAN PrimeServ finished the 151-year service check of the steam piston engine powering the World's oldest original paddle steamer in operation. Hjejlen's engine was built in Copenhagen along with the actual boat in 1861 by Baumgarten & Burmeister, Denmark, the original predecessor of MAN Diesel & Turbo. The original steam engine comprises two oscillating cylinders 26 cm in diameter with a stroke length of 42 cm producing an output of 18 kW/ 24 horsepower. None of our customers are left on their own -- even the oldest equipment is serviced by MAN PrimeServ.
