There are some wonderful places that miners ended up settling in. This particular town sitting at 6,700 feet got its start back in 1864 when silver and gold were discovered. Fast forward 10 years and the town grew to have a city district and mining mill district due to the substantial discoveries made in the enveloping mountains.
The hotels, saloons, boarding houses, cabins, butchers and even a post office sprung up. The same old story continues on, and the mine shut in 1876; the town hung on until 1881 when it was deserted.
Two years later, 150 hearty souls moved back and decided to make a go at it again. To no avail as another two years passed, and they all again left. Many revivals took place over the years, but none were successful, and now the town sits in ruins of its former glory.
The scenery, the stream, the age and the remaining structures make this ghost town a memorable one.
