Stephenson 32.5 A general map of the United States, Mexico and Central America. Earlier state with border portraits of Gen. Kearney and Colonel Ellsworth still present. Four inset maps: Rainfall and mean annual temperature; world on Mercators projection [with prevailing religions] ; distribution of slave and free colored population; agricultural staples by Thomas Meehan. Six inset patriotic views: “rescue of the Union”, capitol in Washington, “response of the Army & Navy”, The birth of the Union (battle of Bunker Hill), Monitor and Merrimac battle, and scene of camp life. Still states the 1860 census was “in advance of official publication”. Includes three profiles including A.W. Whipple’s route for the Pacific R.R.
