Amma was born under the star Kārtika (കാർത്തിക) — the third star in the Hindu lunar calendar — in the Malayalam month of Kanni (കന്നി), which falls between mid-September and mid-October.

Every month, on the day of Kārtika, special pujas are conducted at the Kalari — Amma’s ancestral home’s cowshed, which was later transformed into a temple. It was here that Amma first began giving darshan, meeting people, meditating, and singing bhajans during the early days of the Ashram.

This sacred song, sung by Swami Amritaswarupananda Puri, is a heartfelt tribute to Amma on Her birthday — an offering of love, gratitude, and surrender.

innallo kārttikanālu ennamma piṟanna nālu
saundaryaṃ vilaṅguṃ nālu santoṣaṃ pūkuṃ nālu
ഇന്നല്ലോ കാർത്തികനാള് എന്നമ്മ പിറന്നനാള്

Meaning:
Today is the sacred day of Kārtika — the day when my Mother was born,
A day when beauty radiates and joy blossoms everywhere.

njangale śāntarākki njangale śaktarākki
ഞങ്ങളേ ധന്യരാക്കി ഞങ്ങളേ ഭക്തരാക്കി

Meaning:
You have made us blessed and filled our hearts with devotion.
You have granted us peace and bestowed upon us strength.

സ്നേഹം പകർന്നു നീ ആവോളം തന്നു

Meaning:
O Mother, how can I ever repay the gift of Your boundless love?
My hands are empty — I have nothing worthy to offer You in return.

janmadina sammānām entu nalkum amme
enteyi janmaṃ njan ninnil arppikkāṃ
ജന്മദിന സമ്മാനാമെന്തു നൽകുമമ്മേ

Meaning:
What gift can I place at Your feet on this sacred birthday, Amma?
