Mesa Verde National Park: Things To Do - Mesa Verde National Park (U.S. National Park Service) (nps.gov)

Mesa Verde National Park is home to more than 4000 archaeological sites and over 600 cliff dwellings. The Ruins, constructed from sandstone, wooden beams and mortar, were built by the Ancestral Puebloan peoples who lived in the dwellings from approx. 600 to 1300 AD.
Cliff Palace, the most famous Mesa Verde dwelling dates back more than 700 years.
Mesa Verde became a national park in 1906. President Theodore Roosevelt created the park to preserve the iconic cliff dwellings.
