This lecture introduces the method of Lagrange multipliers for solving constrained optimization problems with equality constraints. We explore the necessary conditions for optimality, focusing on the alignment of gradients, and demonstrate how this principle can be applied to solve a simple example.We then introduce Projected Gradient Descent, an approach for handling constrained optimization problems where the method of Lagrange multipliers is not easily applicable. This technique provides a practical pathway for solving more complex optimization tasks in machine learning and data science.
