Most members of the United Nations Security Council strongly criticised Israel’s decision to recognise Somaliland, calling the move destabilizing and dangerous for the Horn of Africa and beyond. At an emergency UNSC meeting, Assistant Secretary-General Khaled Khiari confirmed that Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu announced Israel’s official recognition of Somaliland as an independent and sovereign state. Somalia’s UN Ambassador Abu Bakr Dahir Osman delivered a forceful address, urging council members to reject what he described as Israel’s 'act of aggression.'
