When children are upset and dysregulated, they need the adults in their life to demonstrate calm. This video focuses on concepts that parents and caregivers can use to help themselves stay calm in order to help their kids get calm. "Our Calm = Their Calm" pulls together concepts from leading experts in child development. Dr. Bruce Perry teaches us that emotion contagion means we are influenced by, and can influence, other people's emotions. Dr. Dan Siegel and Dr. Tina Payne Bryson use the acronym HALT (Is your child Hungry, Angry, Lonely or Tired?) to assess a child's needs. Knowing what your child needs in the moment can help both of you get to calm faster. Dr. Brene Brown highlights the need for vulnerability in relationships. And lastly, the key concept that focusing on your own self care will also help you respond more calmly when your child is upset.
