This exhibition is titled "Nameless Events" and will be held at Ponetive Space Gallery in Heyri Art Village.

Opening Thursday, April 6th at 4pm to April 30th.

Artist Statement:

"My serialized work Nameless Events on show at this exhibition represents my quotidian incidents and experiences through an appropriation of typical images adopted for the cast “Old Newspaper” in a South Korean portal. What is posted on its first page are the contents of old newspapers, such as provocative titles of the incidents, the miserable conditions hidden behind the incidents, a dramatic survival in an accident, shabby facets of the times, and one’s enhancement of national prestige.

Those representative images have been recreated by erasing parts of news photographs and filling them with blue. They look somewhat countrified with a combination of black and white with blue. I also feel those images could be eloquent representations of the rather gloomy ambiance of the times between the 1960s and 1980s. I have also found those images interesting as they look awkward and loosely associated with the news contents.

The whole title of this series Nameless Events refers to my trifling, personal, and common incidents that draw little attention rather than social, historical events covered by the news media. But the title of each work has been decided by reference to the titles of news photographs. This displays an inconvenient gap caused by the contradiction and absurdity of our time.

I intend to arouse the unfamiliarity in everyday life each individual has considered insignificant by replacing our daily event’s potential and possibility to be covered by the news media with contradictory elements between image and text or exhibit title and work title, while holding an individual’s everyday life in the meaningful form of work. "
