Marielle Franco was a Brazilian politician and human rights activist who was born in Rio de Janeiro in 1979. In spite of her humble beginnings and the many challenges she faced during her formative years, Marielle went on to become a city councillor of the Municipal Chamber of Rio de Janeiro for the Socialism and Liberty Party. She was a fierce advocate for human rights, women’s rights and LGBTQ+ rights.
Marielle was tragically assassinated in 2018. We explore her life and legacy in this 60-second video.
