Malham Cove is a spectacular natural limestone formation located in North Yorkshire, England, within the Yorkshire Dales National Park. It’s a huge curved cliff of white limestone, standing about 70 metres (230 feet) high, and it honestly feels like nature showing off.
Thousands of years ago, a powerful waterfall carved the cove during the Ice Age. Today, the water flows underground, leaving behind this dramatic, dry cliff face that attracts hikers, climbers, photographers, and nature lovers from all over.
What makes it special
• The limestone pavement at the top is famous—criss-crossed with natural cracks called grikes and clints
• Stunning views over the Dales once you reach the top
• It’s part of a classic Yorkshire walking route, often combined with Malham Tarn and Gordale Scar
Is it baby-friendly? 👶
• The walk to the base of Malham Cove is relatively gentle and well-maintained
• The steps to the top (around 400+) are steep, so a baby carrier is much better than a pram
• Plenty of open space for breaks, feeding, and soaking in the views

• Early morning or weekdays to avoid crowds
• Weather can change quickly, so layers are your best friend!
