John Alexander Logan needs no introduction to students of the Civil War. Known as Black Jack because of his dark hair and eyes, and his swarthy complexion, he was a hard-fighting subordinate of generals Ulysses S. Grant and William T. Sherman, a politician, and a key player in the establishment of Decoration Day. Here's a story about him, related to the 1862 Battle of Fort Donelson.
