Clavinova CVP-210 Repair

If you have Clavinova with models CVP-210 or alike CVP-207, 208, 209 and you have no audio or partial audio then you most likely have a bad DAC chip (PCM-1702) There are two for right and left audio.

WARNING!!! this repair is not easy! Anyone with no experience soldering and or surface mount repair then this is not for you. If you decided to still repair it yourself with no prior experience then you have a high chance of damaging your piano further.

Tools needed: SMD reflow station with heat gun.

Parts needed PCM-1702. I got mine on ebay from the UK from a Yamaha repair specialist. I ordered 4 of them just in case I botched the install. Fortunately I was able to get the first set installed . I did have a cold solder joint on the first test. only one side was playing. when back to the reflow station and reflowed the suspected chip and it was the issue. both working .

We got the piano for free because the owner did not want to have Yamaha replace the board for over $1k in repair costs. I took the challenge and with some reflow experience the repair was successful.... and it was a beautiful score!
