October is when we are harvesting and storing our pumpkin and squash. It's best to harvest them when they are ripe and the stem has started to dry off. This means that they will store better than if the stem is green. We will always harvest and store them when frost is due.

If any are harvested before they have dried out because frost is due then we will either eat them or dry them outside during the daytime in a sunny position.

The best way for us to store pumpkin and squash is on our conservatory windowsill as this is a sunny dry position. We don't heat our conservatory often so this makes a good dry place to store them safely.
