...Source: Transcript: Per InsideEVs, BMW is gearing up to launch a long-wheelbase version of its iX3 electric SUV, designed specifically for China and select Asian markets. This stretched iX3 is about 4.25 inches longer than the standard model, offering more space for passengers in the rear—a big selling point in the Chinese market. The vehicle will officially debut at the Beijing Auto Show in April 2026, with deliveries starting later in the year.
Built on BMW's 800-volt Neue Klasse platform and using their sixth-generation electric powertrain, the long-wheelbase iX3 is expected to offer over 560 miles of range on China’s CLTC test cycle. That’s more optimistic than the 500 miles estimated on the European WLTP cycle, and nearly 400 miles using the U.S. EPA standard.
BMW has also customized this version with a China-specific chassis and suspension setup for a smoother ride, and a locally developed infotainment system powered by Alibaba and DeepSeek, tailored to local voice commands and traffic conditions. Trial production began late last year at BMW’s Shenyang plant, and while it won’t be coming to Western markets, buyers in places like Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, and India can also expect to see it soon.
