The Yamaha XT500 cemented its legendary status early in life, winning the inuagural Paris-Dakar Rally in 1979, and in 1980 it won the rally again, and was followed by XT500s in second, third, and fourth place. We're hoping to revive this ruined '79 Yamaha XT500 to its former grandeur and grab a share of that early Dakar glory for ourselves. We've got a long way to go to get there ... This thing hasn't run in a decade or more, and is missing some really important parts. Can we get it running and get the restoration kicked off? You'll have to watch to find out.
