PATCHSPLAINING nr. 1
The WMD Metron sequencer is driving the patch, providing clock for Pam’s Pro, 4ms Dual Looping Delay and Schlappi Nibbler. Trigger sequences also drives the Make Noise Rene 2 clock inputs and the Rossum Assimil8or. Metron is self patched to move through variations A B C D E via the Assign1 input.
Pam’s Pro is set up as a random cv hub with all 8 outputs going into 2 x quad passive multiples providing 32 random cvs in total. Each channel is set to loop 4, 8 or 16 beats, giving a tiny bit of stability in the randomness, but eventually a gate from Metron will regenerate the random cv loops on Pam’s Pro via the cv2 input as cross operation source. The same gate also runs to the Z-mod on Rene 2 to move through the 7 active states.
The random cvs provide modulation for various parameters on multiple modules including Doepfer switches, Maths, the Rossum Linnaeus filter, the Dual Looping Delay, and also the Rossum Assimil8or, where channel 1 is set up with 6 different kick drums in Zones mode, so the random cv shifts through the kick drums.
Individual outputs from the Assimil8or provides the beat at the same time as the stereo output goes through the Linnaeus filter + the Dual Looping Delay to create stereo movement.
All audio outputs run into a 24 channel rack mixer connected to a laptop via usb. Each channel is available in Ableton, where there’s added a bit of reverb to certain elements and some master compression.
Variation A: the beat is going sort of half time while Metron sends triggers to the Y-channel on Rene, which in turn drives the Dannysound EN129 OSC going through the DinSync VCF303 for a pseudo melodic sequence. Rene goes through two states.
Variation B: the beat steps up a bit and the melodic sequence continues, but with different tonality from the next two stages of Rene.
Variation C: the beat changes a bit, while a switch opens up to send the EN129 OSC triangle wave into the FM input on the Assimil8or’s channel 1, changing the sound of the kick drum. Rene moves to a state with lower pitch, making the melodic sequence blend with the kick drum. Also, the glass like percussive sound from Assimil8or channel 3, sitting in the right side of the stereo field, starts to ratchet, because another switch opens up to send random cv to the Maths channel that is triggering the sample.
Variation D: the beat is the same as in variation A, but the melodic sequence is out. Instead the Akemie’s Castle is introduced, bringing in an FM kick/noise sort of sequence, driven by various modulation and gates from the Schlappi Nibbler. The outputs of the Castle is run through two vca’s both opened by an envelope triggered by a sequence from the Metron. Rene moves one state.
Variation E: the beat is the same as variation B and the rest is going forward as in the previous variation until Metron again sends a gate to its own Assign1, making the whole A B C D E start over again with Rene returning to its first active state.
Second time through variation C, a sample will start on the Erica Sample Drum. It is triggered by a channel on Metron set to 75% probability, which is why it didn’t trigger the frist time around. It is a sample of two Danish cycling commentators talking, while going through the Rossum Panharmonium, slicing and pitching the sample.
I hope it makes sense. There a further minor details to the patch, ask me if you're interested in knowing something in particular.
