August Draconids and Cygnids are two established meteor showers with large radiants
close to each other in the August night sky. Some authors consider them a single
Cygnid-Draconid complex, while others classify them as separate meteor showers. In
this conference talk, we will present our ongoing work on the orbital evolution of Cygnid
and August Draconid meteoroids from two nearby radiant groups. Our goal is to
assess whether a dynamical connection exists between the two meteoroid streams, or
if their radiant similarity is purely coincidental. To achieve this, we performed numerical
integrations using the REBOUND integration package including non-gravitational radiation forces. For each simulated meteoroid orbit, we generated 10,000 clone particles
in four different size bins ( ranging from 10 to 10²) and integrated the system for 1,000
years into the past. Preliminary results do not show a high likelihood of a dynamical
link between the two meteoroid streams. Both the Cygnid and August Draconid orbits
are influenced mostly by close encounters with Jupiter, and 5:3J and 9:4J mean motion
resonances, respectively.
