Emma Joens is a first-grade teacher at Berryton Elementary and was chosen as the Elementary Horizon Award Nominee. Julia Gloss, a Language Arts teacher at Shawnee Heights Middle School, was selected as our Secondary Horizon Award Nominee.

Every year our administration selects two outstanding teachers to nominate for this award. These teachers will be nominated for the 2022 Kansas Horizon Award sponsored by the Kansas State Department of Education. The Kansas Horizon Award program identifies and recognizes representatives of excellent teaching in the elementary and secondary classrooms of the state. The program's mission is to recognize exemplary first-year teachers who perform in a way that distinguishes them as outstanding.

We are excited to nominate these two teachers; they will be excellent representatives of Shawnee Heights. Please wish them luck as they prepare their materials. They both are perfect examples of the high-quality teachers we have in our district.
