The McDonnell Douglas F/A-18 Hornet is a twin-engine, supersonic, all-weather, carrier-capable, multirole 4th generation combat jet. It was designed to serve as both a fighter and attack aircraft.
The single-seat F/A-18C and dual-seat D variants are products of a 1987 block upgrade which included avionics, radar, and capability for the AIM-120 AMRAAM air-to-air missile and AGM-65 Maverick and AGM-84 Harpoon air-to-surface missiles.
Raytheon declares their Advanced Combat Radar or RACR... as delivering AESA technology in a lightweight, powerful and advanced multimode package for the F/A-18C. Improvements beyond mechanically scanned antenna (MSA) radars include:
Higher resolution and longer standoff range
5 to 10 times more operational availability than MSA radars
Simultaneous detect, identify and track multiple air and surface targets
