Sunday 4th May, saw the delivery of a new pair of F-35B Lightnings for the Royal Air Force and Royal Navy at RAF Marham in Norfolk. They were joined by two other F-35s which returned from the United States following some ‘refurbishment’. This video also features some of the radio comms between the flight of four with Marham Approach and Marham Tower.
The four aircraft made the long journey across the pond with the help of an RAF Voyager (an Airbus A330 MRTT), registration ZZ330. They stopped for a couple of nights at Lajes Airport on Terceira Island in the Azores before their final journey to RAF Marham. Leading the four were the pair of refurbs, ZM144 and ZM145. Following them, the new kids on the block, ZM171 and ZM172. The two newbies can been seen lacking the RAF roundel on the front of the fuselage which will be added in due course.
The flight of four were using the callsign ‘ASCOT’, one of the most common callsigns used by the RAF for overseas flights.
