Creative Fashion Hub In Post-Industrial Wasteland: This Is Manufacture NY

Описание: Immense warehouses, smokestacks, an expressway with trucks flying by overhead. They call the 30-acre swath along Brooklyn's waterfront in the neighborhood of Sunset Park, "Industry City." Gritty, post-industrial, flanked by gas stations and bodegas, Industry City is not quite what you'd call "up-and-coming."

But over the last few years, artists and manufacturers have been making use of the visually dramatic space, spread across several old factory building complexes. Its newest resident is Manufacture NY, a 160,000 square-foot facility which, thanks to $3.5 million from the City of New York, is being converted into a fully equipped hub for local fashion manufacturing. We took a look inside the giant facility and met with some of the first designers to make use of this transformative space.
