I’m 26 and have never had a Valentine…
But I genuinely love Valentine’s Day! It’s one of my favorite seasons because LOVE IS IN THE AIR! Not just romantic love, but it also makes me more aware of how I can show love to others around me.
That being said, some things I have noticed about Valentine’s Day as a Christian are that singles, dating, engaged, and married couples either love or hate this month or holiday. I often hear complaints about it being too cringy, not feeling loved, unmet expectations, pressure to perform, and maybe even a magnified loneliness.
The problem with this is that as believers, we are supposed to live our lives from a secure relationship with Christ—one in which we are fully known, loved, and chosen. A relationship that is not fake or inauthentic, but one that completely changes lives.
As believers, we should be going into this week and month with our hearts secure in the knowledge that God loves us and chooses us. It breaks my heart that so many people miss this opportunity to look different than the world and show GOD’S LOVE in a big way during the month of February or on Valentine’s Day.
The same way you might feel sad or lonely, there are people who do not know Jesus and have no hope. We are called to be the light of the world and to LOVE GOD AND LOVE PEOPLE. So I challenge you, believers—let’s rise up and find ways to show God’s love to those around us this week!
We have the GOOD NEWS of a greater love than we can imagine. Let’s start walking with confidence and joy, knowing that we are truly loved, and out of that abundance, love others well this week.
I’ve never had a Valentine on Valentine’s Day, but I have always found ways to celebrate! Here are some things you could do on Valentine’s Day to show the love of God:
Share the GOSPEL with someonePass out roses and offer to pray for peopleWrite encouraging notes with Scripture and give them to othersInvite your single friends to celebrate with you—don’t be alone!Pick one person you know who could be encouraged and get them an intentional ValentinePass out Valentines at a nursing homeAsk your grandma if she wants to celebrate with youPray intentionally for your friends and their relationships
I could go on and on with ideas and how everything changes when we are not so focused on ourselves. Let’s not live our lives full of disappointment, but instead live lives full of love—where we get to see and love others well.
No matter your relationship status this Valentine’s season, you have the choice to live life rooted in the truth that God loves you… or not.
It’s your choice.
