Ὁ αἲρων τὴν ἁμαρτίαν τοῦ κόσμου
ἦλθες Κύριε, μορφὴν δούλου λαβών
Βάπτισμα αἰτῶν Κύριε, ὁ μὴ γνοὺς ἁμαρτίαν.
Εἴδοσάν σε ὕδατα Κύριε, καὶ ἐφοβήθησαν,
σύντρομος γέγονεν ὁ Πρόδρομος,
καὶ ἐβόησε λέγων·
πῶς φωτίσει ὁ λύχνος τὸ Φῶς;
πῶς χειροθετήσει ὁ δοῦλος τὸν Δεσπότην;
ἁγίασον ἐμὲ καὶ τὰ ὕδατα Σωτήρ,
ἁγίασον ἐμὲ Σωτήρ, καὶ τὰ ὕδατα
ὁ αἲρων τοῦ κόσμου τὴν ἁμαρτίαν.
English:
You, who bears the sins of the world
You came Lord, taking on a slave's [man's] appearance
and requesting a baptism, You who knows no sin.
The waters saw You, Lord, and became afraid;
John the Baptist was terrified, and he spoke, saying:
"How shall the lamp illuminate the Light?
How shall the slave put his hands on the Master?
Bless me and these waters, Savior,
bless me and these waters, Savior,
You, who bears the sins of the world".
