"It was a fairly ordinary day in court, but nothing feels all that ordinary in this case. Nick Reiner appeared for the third time, and this time he finally entered a plea. He pleaded not guilty through his attorney. That's typical at this stage for all defendants, pretty much no matter what their long-term plans are. But it is significant, and it's the first official denial we've had that he killed his parents. The case was assigned to a long-term judge. The next step is a preliminary hearing where evidence will be presented to see if Reiner can go to trial. The DA said outside his office still hasn't decided whether they're going to seek the death penalty in the case. It is eligible for that. He said it's going to be a long and rigorous process before they decide whether they can do that."
