North Korean Teens Sentenced to 12 Years Hard Labor for Watching K-Dramas

Описание: Rare footage has surfaced seemingly showing two 16-year-old North Korean boys being sentenced to 12 years of hard labor for watching South Korean television.

The footage depicts the boys in handcuffs in a stadium filled with hundreds of onlooking students. Beneath the footage is a narration that repeats propaganda such as, ‘The rotten puppet regime's culture has spread even to teenagers,’ presumably talking about South Korea. It continues, ‘They are just 16 years old, but they ruined their own future.’

In 2020, North Korea implemented a law punishing people for watching or distributing South Korean entertainment, which can even result in the death penalty for individuals found guilty. This footage, believed to be from 2022, was reportedly distributed among North Koreans as a warning.

The video was provided by the South and North Development Institute, a nonprofit organization that works with North Korean defectors. Its CEO, Choi Kyong-hui, says North Korea believes South Korean media undermines its dogmas.

‘Admiration for South Korean society can soon lead to a weakening of the system ... This goes against the monolithic ideology that makes North Koreans revere the Kim family,’ she said. #WatchThis
