Chinese media furious over new U.S. tariffs

Staying with the Washington and Beijing's trade battles.
As the U.S. make that tariff announcement, China isn't backing down.
According to our Choi Si-young it's media responded with fiery rhetoric.

On Tuesday, the U.S. announced that it will impose yet more tariffs on China, starting August 23rd.
The U.S. Trade Representative said they'll apply to 16 billion dollars' worth of Chinese goods at a rate of 25 percent, provoking a fiery response from Beijing.

On Wednesday, the People's Daily, the official newspaper of the Chinese Communist Party, said that those erecting tariff barriers will eventually shoot themselves in the foot.
In the editorial, it added that it considers protectionism by countries hostile to China "an inevitable challenge."

The Global Times, the sister paper of the People's Daily, also criticized the United States.
It said China has become much stronger over the years,... and that it can overcome the crisis initiated by the U.S.
It noted that China has gone through a number of ups and downs in its history but moved forward every time,... with its people standing united.

Days earlier, at a BRICS Business Forum in Johannesburg, Chinese President Xi Jinping said hardship is part of success.
Now the Chinese media are also trying to unite the people in the face of what could be a prolonged feud.
