 (जिन्हें 'हरिपाल जी' या 'भक्त हरपाल' भी कहा जाता है) की कथा श्री नाभादास जी द्वारा रचित '

भक्तमाल

' में वर्णित है। यह कथा एक ऐसे भक्त की है जिसने साधु-सेवा के लिए स्वयं भगवान को ही लूट लिया था। 

भक्त हरिपाल की मुख्य कथा:

साधु सेवा का संकल्प: हरिपाल जी भगवान के अनन्य भक्त थे और उनका दृढ़ संकल्प था कि वे प्रतिदिन संतों और साधुओं को भोजन कराने के बाद ही स्वयं कुछ ग्रहण करेंगे।

गरीबी और चोरी का मार्ग: धीरे-धीरे उनकी सारी संपत्ति संतों की सेवा में समाप्त हो गई। जब उनके पास कुछ नहीं बचा और उधार मिलना भी बंद हो गया, तो संतों को भूखा न रखने के उद्देश्य से उन्होंने चोरी और लूटपाट का रास्ता अपनाया।

भगवान को लूटने का प्रयास: एक बार जब उन्हें कोई नहीं मिला, तो भगवान द्वारिकाधीश स्वयं माता रुक्मिणी के साथ सेठ-सेठानी का भेष धरकर एक जंगल से गुजरे। हरिपाल जी ने उन्हें रोका और भाला दिखाकर उनके गहने लूट लिए।

भगवान का दर्शन: जब हरिपाल ने गहने लूटे, तो उन्होंने देखा कि एक छोटा सा छल्ला (अंगूठी) सेठ की उंगली में फंसा रह गया है। भगवान की लीला देखकर और उनके दिव्य स्वरूप का अनुभव कर हरिपाल भावुक हो गए। तब भगवान ने उन्हें अपने असली रूप में दर्शन दिए।

अक्षय भंडार का वरदान: भगवान ने हरिपाल की निष्ठा से प्रसन्न होकर उन्हें देवी लक्ष्मी के दिव्य आभूषण दिए और वरदान दिया कि उनका भंडार कभी खाली नहीं होगा, ताकि वे निरंतर संतों की सेवा कर सकें। 

कथा का सार: यह कथा सिखाती है कि भगवान भक्त के बाहरी कर्मों से अधिक उसके हृदय के भाव और सेवा भावना को देखते हैं। 

The story of Bhakt Haripal (also known as Haripal Ji) is a famous legend from the Bhaktamal (a hagiographic text on the lives of saints). It highlights the extreme devotion of a man who was willing to risk everything for the service of saints.

The Story of Bhakt Haripal

1. Dedication to Saint Service (Sadhu Seva):
Haripal was an ardent devotee of Lord Krishna. His primary spiritual practice was serving wandering monks, saints, and the poor. He had taken a vow that he would never eat until he had first fed a group of saints.

2. Poverty and Desperation:
Over time, Haripal spent all his wealth and belongings on this service. Eventually, he became so poor that he had no food or money left. However, he refused to break his vow. Out of desperation to continue feeding the saints, he decided that if he couldn't earn money honestly, he would steal it—believing that stealing for the sake of God’s devotees was not a sin.

3. Attempting to Rob God:
Seeing his unwavering devotion, Lord Dwarkadhish (Krishna) and Goddess Rukmini decided to test him. They disguised themselves as a wealthy merchant and his wife traveling through a forest with expensive jewelry. Haripal stopped them at spear-point, demanding their valuables to fund a feast for the saints.

4. The Divine Revelation:
While Haripal was taking the jewelry, the Lord purposefully kept a small ring stuck on His finger. When Haripal struggled to remove it, he looked into the merchant's eyes and felt an overwhelming sense of divine peace. Realizing this was no ordinary human, he fell at their feet. The Lord then appeared in His true four-armed (Chaturbhuja) form.

5. The Blessing:
The Lord was not angry about the robbery; instead, He was moved by Haripal's selfless desire to serve others. He blessed Haripal with an "Akshaya Bhandar" (an inexhaustible storehouse) so that he would never run out of resources to serve the saints for the rest of his life.

Moral of the Story

The story teaches that God values the "Bhava" (intention and emotion) behind an action. Haripal was willing to face punishment and social disgrace just to ensure that the devotees of God did not go hungry.
