I’m back at Canons Bespoke, a London house with 185 years of uninterrupted shoemaking behind it. With my friend Simon Bolzoni, I’m opening the workshop to answer a question I’m asked all the time: what does comfort in a bespoke shoe actually mean?

Simon has real fitting shoes, built for real clients, laid out on the bench. Some are ordinary feet. Some are anything but. Each one shows what a last can capture that a shoe size never will.

If you’ve ever thought dress shoes are simply meant to be uncomfortable, or that your shoes fit “well enough,” I think this one will change how you see it.
