Описание: On August 2, 1989, Piedmont flight 1489 (DCA-CLT-CAE), a 737-400 with 96 passengers and six crew members, made an emergency landing in Greensboro when the landing gear jammed. After a fly-by of the Charlotte tower to confirm the gear was not down, Captain Larry Fuda attempted several in-flight maneuvers to jar the gear loose. He was successful in dislodging the right gear but the left remained stuck. Diverted to Greensboro, Fuda then made 3 very hard touch-and-go landings to try and jar the gear loose. The decision was finally made to land in a spectacular, precision landing carried live on local television. Fuda was hailed a hero. The incident took place just over 48 hours before the merger with USAir, when Piedmont ceased to exist. You can already see on the right side of the relatively new aircraft that the name “Piedmont” had been removed in preparation for the new logo. This is from a production of The Learning Channel with footage from WXII-TV in Winston-Salem, NC.
